portrait of nun   Villagers that Myrrh met in El Salvador
A series of 11" X 14" portraits in Prismacolor pencil on Arches black card stock.

Clockwise from top left, Santiago, a town leader. Noemi, a nun doing community work. (Myrrh first met her during the civil war, when Noemi was doing dangerous work with the poor. They never expected to see each other again, hence the smile). Small, center:Clara, a schoolgirl. Reina, who was just told by her parents she had to drop out of school and work - happy to see Myrrh, but sad. Chambi, a preschooler, and Mauricio, whose bright and beautiful daughter was soon to leave to study in the capital city. Her scholarship has been provided by Myrrh's Quaker meeting in Palo Alto.

With its ties to several Salvadoran communities, this congregation has been vastly enriched by travel experiences, new friends and visible progress for its modest input. If it were customary for groups in well-off countries do this, think of the impact on poverty in developing countries!
